To Defeat HIV -- We Must Do More for Women and Girls

Huffingtonpost - "There is nothing wrong with having HIV. I tell people that I love myself and that I am not less because of HIV. And as an HIV advocate, I help other women living with HIV deal with the disease, and make sure they know that it is not the end of the world. People make you feel shame, they have preconceived ideas about how you contracted it. But I am not ashamed! (by Clara Banya, Member, Global Fund Advocates Network Speakers Bureau)

As someone who has benefited from the support of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, I know there's life beyond diagnosis and I want other women to know they are not alone.

Sadly, many women in Malawi are chased out of their homes by their spouses after they have disclosed that they have HIV. It took me three months to tell my husband after I found out I had HIV, but when I did, he was very supportive. I was so relieved."
