MMS/aidsfocus.ch conference 2017: HIV Test and Treat: Are the 90 - 90 - 90 targets set for 2020 within reach?

May 10, 2017 | Hotel Kreuz, Bern

Get Tested! Know your HIV Status! Slogans we hear a lot from the ambitious treatment target “90-90-90” introduced by UNAIDS in 2014. It means 90% of people who are HIV infected will be diagnosed, 90% of people who are diagnosed will be on antiretroviral treatment and 90% of those who receive antiretroviral will be virally suppressed by 2020. If we reach this goal the end of AIDS by 2030 is within reach. (Photo: Christian Heuss/ Swiss TPH)

The concept 90-90-90 is intended to galvanise national and global action to control HIV and end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. One crucial part of this plan is bringing HIV treatment to all who need it.

Expanding access to treatment is based on the principal of universal testing and treating. What is central to “test and treat” approaches is that if one can identify people early on in their infection, and start treatment so they become virally suppressed, the onward transmission of HIV will be prevented and this will impact on HIV incidence at a population level.

Three years remain until 2020 – are we on track? Where are the bottlenecks in reaching the 90-90-90 target for testing, treatment and viral suppression? Are we leaving any one behind? How do we deal with discrimination and stigmatisation as a major barrier for testing? What is the best approach to reach people for testing?

At the upcoming MMS/ aidsfocus.ch Conference we will discuss best practices, challenges and lessons learnt to reach the treatment target “90-90-90” by 2020. We will analyse the situation in Switzerland and will draw conclusions from and for sub-Saharan Africa.

Target audience: national and international Public Health professionals, project leaders, researchers and all those who are interested.
