The Global Fund Strategy in Relation to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identities

The Global Fund - This document outlines strategies that the Global Fund will carry out to address the vulnerabilities and the needs of men who have sex with men, transgender peoples and sex workers in interventions to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

At its Sixteenth Board Meeting in November 2007, the Global Fund Board recognized the importance of addressing gender issues in the fight against the three diseases, placing a particular focus on the vulnerabilities of women and girls and “sexual minorities” (men who have sex with men, transgender peoples, and female, male, and transgender people sex workers) – communities that have different experiences, vulnerabilities and health risks. The Board authorized the Global Fund Secretariat to develop a strategy to address gender issues in Global Fund policies and operations.
