Mulitsectoral Approaches
HIV/AIDS is not only a health problem; it is a general development problem that affects all sectors. This is why effective strategies for combating HIV/AIDS require coordinated action in all sectors in order to reduce the impact of the epidemic on the individual sectors and to efficiently address the factors driving the epidemic. Important players are the health sector, the education and agriculture sectors, private companies and religious institutions. Multisectorial cooperation can only be effective if it is coordinated properly across all sectors and activities and is backed by involvement and commitment on the part of national governments and senior decision-makers in development organisations, empowerment of those involved to handle the AIDS problem, and the provision of the necessary resources.
